This is not something I can objectively answer. We have 4 seasons in Switzerland from hot summer to snow in the winter. There is 4 official languages and when I am not wrong around 23 swissgerman dialects (all no written languages), 4 italian dialects, 4 rumantsch and I think one french (but do not point on me when I am wrong about this).

Politically: We have no President, we have 7 Bundesräte which govern as a collegium. We have direct votes to enforce or stop laws in their process. Switzerland is very federalistic.

Cultural: Many swiss people are rather showing the cold shoulder than offering a warm hug at first. But I would argue that once you finde someone to vibe you will not loose this connection easily. But depends mostly on your character and the other person I think.

Concerning Kids and education: I have several friends who are techers and am positively impressed how our school system is adapting. Much importance to learn responsibility, expressing your needs and resolving conflicts with words. Integrative schools mostly where slower learners are mixed with fast learners. I think it is hard work for teachers but a blessing for society and the kids. Since they learn from the ground up, how complex our society is. That we are a big salad of individuals and not a pot of standardized carrots with the same properties. Everyone has their talents. We only have to find them and give everyone tasks which match and engage these talents.

Arts: I am no proponent to leave the art to artists. I would say everyone is an artist in its way. But speaking of professional painters, musicians, actors and so on I think there is some opportunity. But it is hard and there is not much money to gain by it as I hear from musicians.

Economically: Switzerland has one of the highest economic fluctuation. Just recently I heard, that only about 20% of peoples income is related to the income of their parents. The rest is your education and your network which makes the income. Switzerland is very attractive to be an entrepreneur and build a company. Switzerland has very low Taxes (around 10% excluding health care). Taxes can differ a lot depending on the canton (federalism and free taxing markets).

It's all very interesting. I appreciate the explanation. I am very fond of the freedoms I am granted in the US, but the educational system has been going downhill for some time in my state (California).

I am personally in a great spot... my kid's school is a 10/10, but it's not representative of what most of the kids deal with here.

Northern California is also very diverse. It's a melting pot of cultures and languages. Sacramento, where I grew up, was once considered the most diverse geographic region in the world, per capita.

Not sure where it stands today, but I remember a statistic that stated over 50 languages are spoken around the greater Sacramento area (and this was before the recent influx of illegal immigration).

Our weather can't be beat, but taxes in California are ridiculous, but likely lower than some European countries. 10% sales tax in my region. Gas is still over $4/gallon here, largely due to state and regional taxes.

Businesses and residents have been fleeing California and the political class (liberal democrats) is in a bind after overspending on silly programs aimed mostly at securing votes instead of responsible governing. Their tax base is leaving and the state budget is currently decimated....

We spend more per student than nearly anywhere in the world with very poor outcomes. 🤷‍♂️

Ok. No I thnk to me the US is not even a option for holidays currently. When the US understands that all their wealth is based on freedom, not from giving priviledges to some ethnic part or to the rich, then the US will maby come back as an option to me.

Currently the US seems like insecure 3rd world to me.

It's a slippery slope for sure. I remain optimistic about some of the current direction away from DEI and illegal immigration, etc... but I do worry about the next administration reversing some/all of our current progress.

Still, I think the news paints a picture that the whole of the US is in shambles, when the worst of it is localized to a few key cities...

The potential here to maximize individual liberty is indeed where the value is.

Ok. I rather worry about this administration. This administration seems to be creating problems instead of solving it.

Never seen such a obvious thief being a president and a population which defends this theft.

Seems a very left take.

Borders are now closed.

Tariffs are bringing in revenue.

Several wars have been settled.

Hell, they even made a bitcoin reserve.

Now don't get me wrong, I see Trump's shortcomings as well as anybody, but consider our alternative.

Biden vaxxed millions with the threat of their jobs and kids schooling.

Biden oversaw the worst inflation we've seen since the 70s.

Biden let in 20 million illegal immigrants, and lost 300k children to sex/child trafficking cartels.

The Biden administration was likely the most corrupt administration we've ever witnessed. His family enriched themselves on his political connections for 50 years.

I see Trump as implementing several common sense policies that will improve my families quality of life over the next few years.

Also, generally, Americans don't like foreign entanglements. Tough trade is good for us. Making NATO countries contribute more is good for everyone.

Now... does Trump talk like a complete dolt? Yup. Sometimes its so cringe I have to laugh.

Does he enrich himself off the office? Probably...though I'm not sure what the current allegations against him are...

His shitcoinery is lame, unethical even, but not illegal.

Love him or hate him, we can probably agree that his presidency is/will be the most consequential for over 100 years.

My bet is that things get better, not worse. What else can I ask for? 🤷‍♂️

I think we live in very different realities. I thinkrump knows his voters best:

“I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters.”

Trump does not cover his bad behaviour. But this does not make him any better of a person. But it clearly makes his voters and supporters partners in crime.

He is disabeling the separation of powers, pushing the government to violate human rights, disrespecting court orders, disrespecting the independence of the FED, disrespecting the foundation of wealth in the US (universities and the school system). I think trump will help to split up the US. I do not think the US will still exist in 10 years as one union. I bet on a separation into two states.

One poor nation and one free nation.

Never bet against the US. Or our core values. Strongest around.

The left is dying. Don't feed it. Socialism is for cucks.

I love that he disrespects the universities and climate weirdos... and NATO.

The courts, at the behest of several prominent leftist politicians and foreign interests have over stepped their bounds.

Trump is right to stop mail-in voting (democrat cheating). He's right to cut millions of fraudulent names from social security. He's right to deport illegal criminals.

More human rights atrocities were committed at our border over the last 4 years than Trump will ever cause.

The US is getting stronger. Not weaker. Socialism is becoming a dirty word again (thank god). Prices are down. Businesses will get needed breaks and manufacturing may even come back.

Thinking the states will separate is short-sighted and likely comes from youtube commentary, not reality.

The left is mad. Real mad. They will try their best to protest and break shit. They always do. But they are ultimately weak and dont have the power of the populace behind them. Their cause is fading.

When I consider the worst of Trump, I think of my tax dollars arming Isreal, or the hiding if the Epstein files from the US people..

But then I remember, that's what they've all done.

Sometomes I ask myself, How could anyone choose Biden/Kamala for anything? I wouldn't let them scrub my toilets.

I think it has to do with a twisted sense that hurting ourselves will make thr world better. Americans are sick of hurting ourselves for the world. It's time to clean house.

The US dollar is broken. But so is all fiat. Trump wants to print like never before. That debasement is awful.

And then I remember, oh yeah, they all do that.

Trump derangement syndrome is real. Don't fall for the fake news. America is about to blast off.

Yes I think only you can help yourself to see the world how it is. No outside power will or can change you.

Most of the times wrong analysis have no direct consequences, when it is about the bigger picture.

I just see how the US got to more surveillance with Trump, not less. More separation not less. More authoritarianism not less.

And all this is not good, when it happs at other places in other times as well.

Well, I'm glad you see so clearly from Switzerland what I cannot from inside.

🤣

I don't know own a single American, poor or rich, that would trade what they have for a European dystopia.

What do you mean by “European dystopia”? Are you referring to Russia invading Ukraine, or the loss of freedoms in Hungary? Just curious.

You asked if switzerland is nice to live. I did not ask about the US.

Wow. Seems you certainly had a lot to say about it. Are all Swiss this touchy?
