It's all very interesting. I appreciate the explanation. I am very fond of the freedoms I am granted in the US, but the educational system has been going downhill for some time in my state (California).
I am personally in a great spot... my kid's school is a 10/10, but it's not representative of what most of the kids deal with here.
Northern California is also very diverse. It's a melting pot of cultures and languages. Sacramento, where I grew up, was once considered the most diverse geographic region in the world, per capita.
Not sure where it stands today, but I remember a statistic that stated over 50 languages are spoken around the greater Sacramento area (and this was before the recent influx of illegal immigration).
Our weather can't be beat, but taxes in California are ridiculous, but likely lower than some European countries. 10% sales tax in my region. Gas is still over $4/gallon here, largely due to state and regional taxes.
Businesses and residents have been fleeing California and the political class (liberal democrats) is in a bind after overspending on silly programs aimed mostly at securing votes instead of responsible governing. Their tax base is leaving and the state budget is currently decimated....
We spend more per student than nearly anywhere in the world with very poor outcomes. 🤷♂️
