Often the messaging is "We have to remove this horrific dictator". E.g. Taliban regime, Quaddafi, Hussein. 20 years of war in Afghanistan and we have the new regime (same as the old regime).

However, this assumes that somehow authoritarianism is the worst thing imaginable. Removing Quaddafi resulted in the slave trade returning to Libya. Some places really do need a strong leader.
