Wdym? Anyone can run ads on their own domain, so everyone. It's not like there's going to be mass migration off the mainstream sites, it would just make things a little more convenient for everyone.
Ok so rn insta and twitter etc have a captive audience to serve ads to. What benefit is there allowing ppl to just make their own ad free instance?
