Inner city folks without transportation get stuck going to hospitals that often lack resources and adequate follow up from physicians. This results in poor outcomes and quality of care. Staff is overwhelmed, unable to complete tasks like turning patients, thorough assessment, and communication with the docs and team members.

They lack simple things like: a receptionist to answer the phone, a nurse aide to take their vital signs or help patients to the bathroom, a break buddy to watch their patients while they eat to ensure safety, and a phlebotomist to collect STAT labs.

All of this causes burnout and blame culture. Management who respond with consequences can’t understand why it doesn’t get better.
