I agree that arguing about foreskin is ridiculous. Maybe not a distraction from the degradation of our country, but more a piece in the puzzle of people waking up to first principles thinking and ownership of oneās own streams of research supported by data. Imo, itās not something I want to proliferate, but itās not the most important issue of our time.
Do I circumcise my children? No, because itās not necessary for them.
Do I sit around sad that Iām circumcised because Iām āmissing out on somethingā unquantifiable? No -thatās nonsense. Iāve never had any complaints about my hardware, intimacy with my wife, or the kids that were born from that intimacy.
Will I allow people to remove organs, limbs, or whatever is needed from my kids in order to preserve their life? Yes, obviously. I think people throw the word āmutilationā around too easily in this. Itās more about educating on the necessity of it, not damming people into changing. No one yells at a parent because they got their daughterās ears pierced. Thatās ridiculous.
I would have questions, depending about the age, concerning what values they are instilling into their child by getting their ears pierced very young, but you are right that I would stop short of calling it mutilation.
Then again, ear piercings can heal over, while foreskin, once removed, cannot grow back.
