TONs of plebs are following the fake one & many of the plebs I follow as well have mistakenly followed it as well 
I wonder if they started off looking like a normal pleb, got some people to follow them and then went into impersonation mode.

Just Coracle and to a lesser extent Iris as far as I know. It's a number roughly equal to how many people you follow also follow a particular person. There are other ways to put it together, but that's the very simple version. It's very useful for spotting impostors at the very least.
My vision of web of trust is called the Grapevine, and it will enable you and your community to identify who is the most trustworthy, and in what context, so they can help you curate content, facts, and information.
My proof of concept is a desktop app that maintains lists that are curated by your Grapevine. Example: a list of nostr devs, which would weed out the fake Pablo if he ever got on the list in the first place.
