Parkinson’s law is the adage that “work expands so as to fill the time which is available for its completion”.

I believe that technology has made humans much more efficient but instead of taking the saved time off, we simply occupied it with other activities. The more efficiency introduced, the more crap we end up doing. This makes people mentally fatigued and perhaps physically too.

Combined with constant loss in purchasing power and having to work more for less, you get to a state of total exhaustion.

Great answer, machines are squeezing people's living space. Machines can work day and night, but people can't. Man is supposed to use tools, but now it is man who is controlled by tools. This is why many people choose to leave modern cities and return to the countryside to live a pastoral life. Less needed, less enslaved, more free.
