#805518 Tales of a wise Rabbit:

On the road to Riga now! I’m a bit nervous, as always when you’re outside your comfort zone and don’t know what life throws at you. Goal is to make it to Wrocław today, but at my fist stop I’m already waiting since 1,5hrs for someone to take me east with them. Can only go up from here, I guess! Luckily I found Viktor who is willing to give me a ride till Erfurt. First time riding a truck and it’s immediately a danger transport.

We had an amazing convo, in which he stated his interest to move to the woods one day to have nothing to do with politics and government. Overall great guy, great values, open, honest. We went together until an interchange at Kirchheim, where he had to stop for his mandatory break.

This is where I met Zsolt, a guy in his early sixties, I guess. He showed me a picture of his sweet grandchild Greta. This man had such a big heart you wouldn’t imagine. He was in Germany to pick up used care utensils, like stair aids and sickbeds, to refurbish them with his son, Adam, in a small workplace in eastern Hungary. He told me of all the people he was helping with his care equipment, and of those where all hope was lost and only his religious spirits seemed to work. A true Christian, with wise thoughts about father-son relationships and values of life beyond the hunt for money, fame and riches.

We went together until a rest stop after Jena, where he dropped me off with the best wishes for my journey.

His wishes were heard because soon after, Waldeck agreed to take me with him until the polish border. He barely spoke german nor english and my polish isn’t sufficient to hold conversations either so we mostly sat in quiet and listend to the scratching radio. During our ride I found myself often times in worrying loops about the not so distant future, but stoic quotes and thoughts were able to send some relief. After all I couldn’t make the truck go faster and I was on the right way. However the sun was setting and I didn’t know how to get to Wrocław yet.

So after dropping me off at this trucker port shortly behind the polish border I was on my own again. With my big sign and smile I stood at the roundabout before the highway hoping for an angel to arrive.

And less than 5 min later he did. Andrew was going to Warsaw, transporting medicals that had to be within a certain range of temperature. I told my friend in Wrocław to not wait for me, since I was directly going to Warsaw and questioned Andrew about his time in the UK. He was operating CNC machines for a company that manufactured special parts for Boeing, Rolls Royce and Red Bull Racing. After Brexit and working on fiber optic mapping, things got too expensive and stressful over there, so he decided it was time to go back to Poland. Here he can follow his passions of mushroom hunting and fishing.

I thought I was a truffle pig after finding a great amount of chanterelles yesterday with my mum, but apparently polish woods are built differently. He showed me pictures of his latest hunt with 3 baskets full of porcini’s.

After our little talk Andrew offered me to lay down in the bed behind the driver seat for the rest of the trip to Warsaw, so I can get at least some sleep during the night. I took that offer without much hesitation and slept peacefully until Warsaw.

Now I’m sitting in the cozy lobby of a Leonardo Hotel awaiting my time of departure with fellow plebs to Riga at 7:20 today.
