I did student exchange in the US a few years after that and remember we went to lunch after church on a Sunday and they had “freedom fries” on the menu. I asked my host-dad why they were called that and I’ll never forget the mindless vitriol he had for the French for opposing US warmongering. Generally nice fella just lost it about the fucking French surrender monkeys.
