Being your own bank means you have adopted all of the responsibilities of a bank.
Most people don't want responsibility.
Most people prefer to farm responsibility out.
Bitcoin won't kill the banks. It will just change the way they do business.
Because most people aren't going to do Bitcoin the right way. They're going to want to put it in a bank.

for many people BTC is really too hard.
keys, wallet, address... not everybody can grasp those concepts. even with good UI.
and responsability is an issue too.
What if somebody enter my house, takes hostages, and demand my keys?
inheritance? disabilities? lost keys, fires, robberies?
they will be/are solutions for those issues but anyway farming responsability out is really the best for many.
