framework

How many months have you had it? Drawbacks? Positives?

Following this as well. nostr:npub1fmcnvrf7kf6jupqljvajwwssfvmlredp3hfa6g7gmanyggzrgczsvdd68n and nostr:npub1clk6vc9xhjp8q5cws262wuf2eh4zuvwupft03hy4ttqqnm7e0jrq3upup9 rock the Framework as well, so I’d be curious how they answer this. 🤙🏻

I’ve always had good luck with Lenovo, I think everyone of them I’ve had has gone down at least one set of stairs and survived 🤣

I’m still on an M1 MacBook Pro from when they came out.

Depends on budget and preference. I'm a moron and overpay and use a MacBook Pro.

Big fan of my thinkpad p16v.

It's hard to go wrong with Lenovo imo.

I use a Dell XPS with Ubuntu.

To do what?

Because to do most tasks the answer is any old well built one running a good linux distro.

If audio / video production the answer may be different, if gaming then different again.

So to be annoying, it depends. 😂

High specs encourage shoddy coding...

What's the answer for audio/video laptops?

Also what do people think of miniPCs? For the same task. #asknostr

Usually a Mac Pro, whether you use Mac OS or Linux depends on what software you want to run, simpler stuff without all the plugins you can probably get away with Linux.

It's unfortunate but most of the audio / video industry codes for Mac, would really like to see that change.

You could give https://ubuntustudio.org/ a go on one.

Depends on your requirement and budget. Based on my experiences though, I would suggest either Lenovo ThinkPad or HP EliteBook.

I've always used basic Dell machines and Linux

For what it’s worth:

nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s is with an 10yo Thinkpad x1 carbon. Raves about it.

nostr:npub12rrvutnfeu9677d4yjytypqccjn0njnm6zkx2j6xyn2uqfw02ldsrl8ty9 doesn’t care - just wants you to run Linux.

To be complete:

I'm running a 13 years old ThinkPad XT 220

Right now soldering new cells into it's battery.

M4 Mac pro is hands down the best hardware I've ever had in a laptop; and I hate saying that because I'd rather be running #Linux.

But, #ableton doesn't support Linux, and #windows keeps getting more and more invasive with every update.

I did not get a hold on it. But did you consider to buy a Framework laptop? A modular laptop build on a open platform.

Had to choose between a MacBook and an Elitebook at work. Picked the HP and couldn't be happier (after removing the spyware mafe in Redmond).

Also using a 6yo second hand Probook, still running smooth.

Do I recommend any of these? No, because I don't know what you want to do.
