Hopefully it will be transparent. i can see Hegseth keeping things on the downlow until they've nabbed the people responsible. fortunately this falls under the military, so things can move more quickly. I expect, though, if it was controlled remotely, the controllers are probably dead.

agreed. they may find though that this act is just a tiny thrust in the insurrection and that exposing this piece could cause the rest of the tentacles to retract.
you'd want them feeling comfortable before exposing the larger creature, assuming Trump really wants to expose it.
