* We are "teached" to behave in an "acceptable" manner, that varies inside each family, groups we integrate and social expectations.
Unfortunately, we are not teached to feel the feelings, go through them and respond, which are totally different things.
So no, I don't think EQ is being teached at school, and in the majority of family units which leads to a lack of empathy and lack of EQ, quite visible and spreading in our society as a plague. Unfortunately, in many family dynamics, what is teached is either dismissing emotions or you get punished for showing emotions (you do want I want or else...)
In this context I don't think is "stupid" a flight or fight response. Is a "trauma" response. When you are raised not "feeling" safe and live a life that feels not safe ( how many people have no confort or enough to live a life with the minimum required to feel secure?), that flight or fight response, is a consequence reaction to an "invisible" treath.
