I remember when Novell bought Suse linux 👴

Yessir. My first was SuSE Professional 7, by SuSE gmbh.

Novell... I'll never forgive and never forget.

Hoping for good things from openSuSE.

At that time I switched to Debian and never looked back 😗

Yup. I went RedHat. SuSE was where the two camps used to meet in the middle.

I remember that!

My first two distros were Debian and OpenSuse.

SuSE and Slackware for me. Remember how cool KDE was back then (still is, but really blew my mind back then)?

Heh, it was my first distro too. Circa 2001.

It was 2009 for me. First intro to Linux=YaST. The “helpers” in the English-language forum were not nice to people and my German wasn’t good enough to follow the other. I switched to Ubuntu then Debian. I checked up on Tumblweed during the lockdown; forums are much better, at least. I wonder when the bastards finally left…

There's always a group of them somewhere. I've never received meaningful help from a distro forum.

True, that.

Red Hat Linux 8 was my first. 6 disc boxed set(3 install CDs, 3 source CDs) bought from the local Staples for $40 USD. Never went back to Windows since.
