The Lightning Network is pretty good for privacy β especially for the sender. However, itβs far from perfect and there are plenty of improvements to be added. Some of them require further development, but there are still some small actions that you can take yourself to make a difference.
The first and most obvious choice is to gain network-level privacy for your node. You can accomplish this for free with Tor, but the speed becomes suboptimal for routing payments. So a quicker option is to get a VPN subscription with IVPN or Mullvad, two services which accept BTC payments and donβt require you to register with any data.
Also, if you happen to be using Lightning in a custodial way, consider looking into Fedi and Cashu. Both of them are Chaumian mint models that seek to completely anonymize transactions within a group of potentially known participants.
