#GrapheneOS installation was scaringly easy with a YouTube tutorial in the background.

Nostr #Amethyst was the easiest part of the migration, lol! An absolute non issue.

The worst part was my #threema backup, as always, but it worked in the end and had nothing to do with grapheneOS...

Workaround for invalid threema data backups:

I had to make sure the screen wouldn't turn off and the energy saving options were turned off for the app while threema was creating it's backup 🤬 All to make sure that Android wouldn't interfere with the backup process while trying to run threema in the background 🤷‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️

Threema has never made sense to me. It's too much of a pain in many regards. And I usually don't mind that, but isn't matrix/element just plain better?

Does not make sense.

Threema is the most convenient privacy focused communication mobile app in the entire world. The Matrix protocol is good, but *any* client is an utterly laughable joke compared to how #Threema works on the same or sometimes even better UX level as or than a privacy invading crap app.

My brother and I have onboarded our whole family and lots of friends to threema over the years. So we we are okay with investing some time to keep people out of WhatsApp... 😉

Check:

Rate the security: 🟩 = 3 🟨 = 1 🟥 = 0

Results:

1. Threema = 85 = the most secure messenger

2. Session = 79

3. Signal = 77

4. Element / Matrix = 59

5. WhatsApp = 34

6. Telegram = 29

7. Apple iMessage = 25

8. Facebook Messenger =25

We should have a GrapheneOS community here.

Installation is just first step of the journey.

I guess you're right. Right now I'm struggling to find the option to make my phone number appear on the other phone when I call someone. Where the fuck can I find it?

#asknostr #grapheneos

Actually, that's not #Threema failing, but your phone. My friends & me use the backup functionality for years & it always worked.

Did you use a custom ROM or the crap the vendor gives plebs by default?

No custom ROMs, Fairphone 3. There was an already existing thread on the troubleshooting forum about my issue, this was the described solution (german):

I use a custom ROM & probably (didn't check) disabled energy optimisation. Making backups since years with screen off & not giving a damn about how the backup goes.

I already restored random backups, which I did not check, twice on two different pleb phones - didn't have to watch restoration process, either - and all worked fine.

So, not sure, if this is a new issue or something, but when it comes to apps being frozen, shut down or whatever, it's pretty much always the OS' fault in 99.99% of cases.

Android, especially pleb ROMs, are extremely "optimising" the crap out of every app.

Samsung & Xiaomi pleb ROMs even kill system apps, if they want to.

I'm now wondering whether Fairphone does some crazy shit with the OS. Maybe there's a bug in it. I heard from others online, that Fairphone have a couple of bugs here & there, that no other phones ever experience.

I'm slowly migrating away from #Threema use. I've added #SimpleX to my privacy arsenal.

I did not know this messenger at all. I took a look at the website. Looks interesting and seems to have everything you need.
