I believe that becomes relevant when nostr gains more traction. I’m trying to imagine how it can be gamified. nostr:npub1sdxqk57gkvlq44g0c3fyuy0s2p4vvnld90nk98nf2ykf6td8gd5shm9mw4 was doing a thread with ever increasing PoW requirements just for fun.

fun is the main word in this. i'm not a dedicated expert on the subject of PoW but it's one of the things about Bitcoin that gives it that zero to one element.

i've personally worked on a proof hash function that leverages long division units in 64 bit CPUs and i know of Chia and Spacemesh (and old eth) also adding large data storage limiters to the schemes but unless the supply of miner hardware is scarce, hard to manufacture, has a lot of competion for this use case (long division vs cpu/gpus is this), and the most important thing, not possible to suddenly unleash a large amount of hash power on the network without a long lead time scaling up then they are all doomed to failure.

so this thing is an idle amusement based on what i know PoW and its market mechanics.

if it is worth something, and someone can enter this with a large amount of resources and take control of the leaderboard it will be.
