it's not that he is deporting any significant number of people - it's that he is treating illegals like dogs and when Mexicans watch that shit on TV in Mexico they think twice before trying to jump the border

whereas before Mexicans knew that once they cross the border they will just be put on a plane to NYC where they will get a free hotel in downtown Manhattan where they will have all their expenses provided and can just live like kings forever without ever having to do anything ...

now the picture in their mind is that if they come to America and work hard and never do anything wrong they will still be hunted down like animals and sent to El Salvador

when DeSantis first started raiding work sites i was like come on bro - why are you deporting people who actually work - why not deport the mooches, the criminals etc. ? but the answer is it's for PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECT. the message being sent is that if you come to America illegally there will be NO MERCY for you. we won't care what a great person you are - you have broken the law and you will be treated like any other criminal.

for every hard working mother that is arrested at work on live TV after honestly working in America for 20 years, thrown in the back of a van and deported there is 100 drug dealers in Mexico who see that on TV and think "maybe i should just stay here in Mexico"

arresting construction workers will certainly make the housing prices go up which is unfortunate but as Trump said "sometimes you have to take the bitter medicine"
