Well, you don't have to be "100% sold on "don't exist"" - that's called shifting the burden of proof logical fallacy.
You are not called upon to prove a negative. The burden of proof is on the one making the positive claim.
"Things like herpes etc. are difficult to explain without some transmissible component." - falsification is independent of replacement.
You don't have to explain how something works to falsify it.
