I think it's hard to judge where Nostr *should* be. What do you compare it to? X a 20 year old multinational Corp worth billions? BlueSky, a 6 year old project with over $700M in funding?

Nostr is a donation funded 3 year old project. It has no central leader, development happens at the edges, by devs who don't necessarily agree on how to move forward. This will be slower, but promises more chance for innovation.

I think a better comparison is Linux. At the 3 year mark it had just reached 1.0. the first Linux distros had just been started, Slackware, and a bit later Debian. It was something only nerds used, but because it had a group of dedicated and committed devs and users, it grew to take over the world.

The path for Nostr success, if there is one, will be similar I think. This isn't a new Twitter. It's a new way to use the Internet, and getting it right will take time. Right now is not ready to handle a flood of users IMHO, and I hope it *does* grow slowly.

A note I left to another user earlier today:

Yeah, feels more like the early days of the Internet, in the 80s, with a bunch of devs and sys admins, and a couple of people talking to them and helping them test. We're still trying to figure out really basic stuff, so I don't think we're ready for Prime Time, yet. I don't feel stressed about it.

I think we can be proud, that most investors don't think they can Get Rich Quick by investing in us. That would require us to skim off major margins or hammer people with ads, and spy on their private convos, and users don't have to put up with that shit on here. And they don't even have to login or use a browser, to see the public events, so we can't even measure how many people are looking at things.

I think you'd have to compare our feeds to a dev bulletin board, to be accurate. Even a lot of the Bitcoin talk is us devs, again, figuring out nuts and zaps and talking about wallets integrating Nostr. The main, kind 01 feed is mostly a tech stack community, like StackOverflow. Even Bitcoin posting is being overtaken by dev posting.

It's definitely not perfect. It's not ever ready for normie users I didn't think. Here's a note I posted the other day.
