Whoever tells you on #nostr to follow thousands of accounts clearly has no idea what they’re talking about and is just trying to benefit themselves-gaining reach and influence while the protocol is still young! Eventually, #nostr will need a proper open-source algorithm that people can choose and add to their feeds. The Web of Trust is a BS idea that only leads to an echo chamber and can’t be scaled!

Web of Trust relies on personal endorsements. As it grows, trust clusters form where people mostly trust those who share their views. This creates closed circles and makes it tough for new or differing voices to get heard, turning the network into echo chambers rather than truly scaling.
Perhaps the “scale” would just be galaxy-like clusters among the empty expanse of social spaces…
But that’s not what we want cuz galaxies would be echo chambers.
Then how does an analogue / replacement for WoT scale properly?

Ok, it when I hear web of trust I also think who I trust to verify software update signatures.
If Elon’s account signs off on a Tesla app update (odd example) then I know it’s authentic.
I don’t think of web of trust as a “social network” primarily. Like, I wanna know who the REAL slim shady is.. so I’ll probably look to see who Dr Dre is following.
