Bitcoin is Universal

Paying for a hotel in Georgia with Bitcoin — all the way from Thailand.

Here’s the story:

I, Habib Ibn Abdulrahim Kodae, have two friends — Arnop Chaleawchalard (Beersos Diary) and Ming Lamyaphaya (MuslimJourney) — who are traveling from Thailand to Saudi Arabia for Umrah.

Before they left, I told them:

“If you find any place where you can pay for accommodation, food, or drinks with Bitcoin, let me know — I’ll cover the cost.”

Now they’ve arrived in Batumi, Georgia, and told me they found a hotel that accepts Bitcoin.

So I decided to pay for their stay — about 89,956 sats,

which was settled in Thai Baht (THB) on my end, and received in Georgian Lari (GEL) by the hotel.

Everything went smoothly. ✅

(However, in this transaction, the fee was quite high — about 10,153 sats — and it took around 10 minutes to confirm, because it was the first time both the hotel staff and my friends ever received Bitcoin.

My payment went from Lightning to On-chain.

But that’s fine — what matters is they got a place to rest, and it became a great example of how powerful it is to send money directly from Thai Baht to Georgian Lari using Bitcoin.

This small fee was worth the experience and the lesson.)
