I seem to recall en Suisse there used to be a rule requiring citizens to keep government-issued weapons and ammo in your house for the common defence. Is that still so?

Not anymore. Our armed citizen army can keep the firearms at home but the ammo is in a central arsenal. With the exception of some specialists who are allowed to keep both at home.
