Absolutely, beadhead wooley buggers(great for kids) and clouser minnows(once you get the action down bass love these). Popper flies might be the most fun to watch so I highly recommend those because the kids will go nuts seeing a bass snatch one off the surface.
Match colors on what you see around you. Flip some rocks by the water and match buggers to the larvae you see. Match clousers to the color bait fish you swimming near shore, and if you have frogs-a white(frog belly) or light green popper works great.
