I usually kindly write to those people for whom I get a notification that I was unfollowed.
Almost every time they didn't even know that they unfollowed me. This HAS to stop, now. We all rely on our following lists to interact here.
What's the point of no algorithms when people get unfollowed automatically?
I hear you, lost my following list myself 1 time. I learn and backup my followers now, there's Nostr tools for that.
It usually happens when one test or try s new client, and nukes your following...

It happens sometimes when you change clients. Word on the street is that this is some crappy clients fault. Not sure how to fix it, except you should regularly backup your content.
There's a feature on nostrgram.co where you can recover your history of following in your profile.
When this happens, I usually go to nostrgram.co and recover my followings.
Literally happens to me monthly , maybe even weekly, takes me some time to notice. So time consuming having to find and refollow all over again. 🤦🏻♀️
It's happened to me a couple of times and It's incredibly frustrating. Both times I was experimenting with new clients.
