Burkina Faso continues to grapple with ongoing conflict and violence. Human Rights Watch (HRW) has released a report accusing the government of putting civilians at risk during an August attack by al-Qaeda-linked armed group JNIM. The incident resulted in the deaths of at least 133 people, including dozens of children, and injured over 200 others. HRW claims that villagers were forced to dig trenches for security forces without compensation, which led to them being targeted by the attackers.
