🧐 Nostr account verification dilemma
So what I can get from what I see (sorry if the following sounds dumb or obvious) is that account verification via domains was intended (or would be flawless) in a world where everyone was tech savvy; where having a domain and self hosting a website was a norm.
However this is by far not the case, which leaves end users with three options:
• learn how to self host a website
• find a friend who knows how to self host a website and is willing to verify you
• pay the guys who know how to self host a website to verify you
At the same time the problem arising in the third scenario is that the business, which automates the verification process in order to stay (financially) afloat can’t perform efficient checks (especially at scale).
No system is flawless and every decision made implies compromise.
End of the day this is a huge problem yet to be solved, and don’t get me wrong, with the current pace of protocols’ development, and the bright minds I’m blessed to interact with here, I see the light at the end of the tunnel.
There’s a lot of work to be done though…
Being an enthusiast working on building a Russian speaking #nostr community, I am at the moment happy with manually verifying people (although I probably would have automated the process if I had enough tech skills).
That said, I’d like to send my regards to the guys over at nostrplebs – #[0] and #[1] (sorry if I missed the rest of the team) – who tirelessly work on separating the wheat from the chaff, do it at scale, and follow up on the results.
It’s super empowering to be a part of this peaceful revolution at such an early stage. This, i believe, is somewhat reminiscent of the Internet in the 1990-s and #Bitcoin in 2010-s. This means struggle, tireless efforts, and endless dedication; but it’s definitely worth it.

The post was done in snort.social and either I’m being dumb or the communication between the clients needs improvement…
