I still never really got the story of Jack being pushed out of TWITTER…

Elon is not as much of a freedom fighter in my humble opinion.

I left because I couldn’t imagine doing what we needed to do as a public company. We had no defense against Wall Street and advertisers. Single point of failure.

Good!

Is there an alternative timeline where Twitter thrives without ever going public?

In my mind, one alternative timeline could have seen Twitter become the Outlook for open social media: ie. focussed on front-end features (customisable algorithms, lists, search, etc) with the protocol open, like Nostr is. Sure, it would have invited a lot of competition, but it would also have *reduced* it in many other dimensions (e.g. entirely different social networks). Still not sure why that didn't happen, TBH.

Quitting Twitter and now building nostr is absolute chad move.

you left with your billions because of wallstreet? wallstreet is your enemy? why? what did you do with your billions? put it into wallstreet? or everything into bitcoin? bitcoin is not driven by wallstreet?

Fred i think you are a bit confused.... 🌹

u a bot from china?

No but your mom know where i am from.🌹

My “billions” is still invested in the current company. I didn’t sell.

👀 it was Jack’s passion for freedom not for money 🤙🫂 Respect 🫡

I would assume you still leverage debt against your stake so you can have the income but not the taxes

Why not? Honest question, if you can share. That might've been the best time to sell...

That’s hot.

not to worry jack I got you covered just sent you some sats

Why didn’t you sell? You could have bought a lot of bitcoin

I believed in the private option

Believed? So you don't anymore?

A parent never stops loving their child...

Don't think that's true either. Sometimes kids are unwanted and unloved by their parents 😔

It’s not over 👀

Selling to Elon was the best option for Twitter.💜

He has actually used a lot of his wealth to support causes he believes in and he’s been very transparent about it.

Always proud of Jack 👏🏼. On a side note, do I need to change my profile picture to an avatar image to get an invite to Bluesky? The waitlist is taking long.

#[4] - I'm curious. You once said (in the context of Bluesky) that you envisaged Twitter being a client of open protocols. Why didn't you pursue that vision? Was it already too commercial by that point?

Thank god you did! 🙏🏽

All good reasons, but were you seriously so unaware of what was going on behind your back with Yoel and company? I mean like: ?cid=2154d3d7woon8tje5d7io70rnz68hc5cbd9yv6bdt9oefpqd&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g

Jack seems much more of a freedom fighter but Elon had the money for twitter to fight back wall street and ads?

I doubt that money can buy freedom 🤷‍♂️

I think money is alway just a multiplier. If you live a free lige, you will feel more free. Same with generousity and also with bad things like greed.

In this case of course it can buy freedom from other investors and necessary revenue streams?

Yes

But problem remains the same atm on Twitter. Still no freedom but more cost to the users 😅

It’s ocifying over there! Just check it for normie talk.

Fascinating. I appreciate any insights you share about your time and experience in the corporate structures you've been in. As a high school econ and business teacher it's valuable Intel! 👌
