This happened to me the other day. I went to an Advance Auto Parts, and asked the cashier to use one of these on my car. He pulled one out from behind the counter and plugged it into my car.
This is an option if one doesn’t want to buy the scanner themself.
The free ones at almost any auto parts store are better than the cheap scanner I would buy. I also have a neighbor and others with high end mechanic diagnostic ones also. I generally try to just go to AutoZone or someplace to not annoy my buddies. If really big issue and need help then I reach out to use the higher end ones.
