This quote from Chapterhouse Dune reminds me of how I once asked a Zen Master “why can’t I just be happy drinking beer on the front porch?” The point of the question being: why go through the trouble of sincere religious practice? In my case: Buddhism, Zen.

His answer blew my mind and changed my life: “because there is a place within all of us that never gets distracted.”
