speaking of new wave bands, i bumped into this hilarious image

basically they face swapped Fox Mulder and Dana Scully from the X-Files

i have to agree, it's a perfect examplar of what new wave bands look like

i was born too late to participate in the lunacy of new wave, gothic and punk but i was a huge fan of all three styles as well as industrial, which is definitely related late 70s/early 80s music
