I think the reason we admire and worship others comes from the survival advantage of following a strong figure, and the psychological comfort of seeing a great figure in something we don't understand. If we admire others too much, we become blind and stop thinking. I think the important thing is not to elevate them, but to understand their true nature and make use of it within ourselves.
