Just like they likely don't understand the fractional reserve banking system to pay in dollars, they can use Bitcoin without understanding the internals. Just make sure they understand who is holding their money, and what basic risks are associated with the answer.
When someone in the community is being an ass, try to get them to engage in a civil discourse instead. If they're not interested in that, let them spout off their nonsense into the wind.
When there is a legitimate debate in the community (block size, drivechains, etc.) keep the discourse civil. Sure memes are fun and all, but they are not a replacement for a civil conversation on the topic.
