Stop using WoS
Discussion
I entirely get your point about custodial lighting.
Just my thoughts on WOS
-it’s such an easy sell to onboard newbs.
-Running your own lighting node is beyond the vast majority of people.
- Is it a huge problem ? as long as people just use it for small amounts, then withdraw to self custody when ready ?
- Could WOS have multi jurisdictional nodes so no single point of failure ?
I think some centralisation is unavoidable until nodes can be in app, and even then Apple may kill the app like they’re going to with Damus
My problems with WOS:
Honeypot. Rugpull potential is huge. If WoS is rugs, then it will be seen as a LN failure by the outside world.
Terms of Service. They can shotgun KYC at any time.
High time Preference mindsets. Bitcoiners spent hours learning how bitcoin works, yet they refuse to spend the same amount or less time to understand how the LN works
Running a node is not difficult or complicated. Opening a channel is as simple as doing an on chain transaction you just define who you are opening a channel to.
Remote access to a LN node is much easier than it used to be thanks to innovations such as Lightning Node Connect which gets rid of TOR but also preserves privacy.
I am not saying everyone WILL Run a node. I am saying self described bitcoiners should. WoS is find for "onboarding noobs" but not fine for seasoned bitcoiners.
All excellent points ! I the Gov can f it up they will.
May be WalletOfSatoshi could put add node connectivity.
Its an awesome app, It would be interesting to hear there take.
