If I wasn’t online, I’d have maybe like 5 or 6 people I hang out with, plus a few family members, coworkers, and my church. Way less than nostr user base. Life is all about small communities. Nostr is just fine no matter what the haters say 😂

nostr users are self selected, instead of being persuaded with constant feeding of algorithmic content.
the reason why i quit using facebook 6 years ago was after reading someone's post of a study done to see how they treated users differently. people like me were selectively fed boring, low engagement feeds, and i'd been noticing for about a year at that point that indeed, that was what was happening.
that was my red line. they were disrupting my ability to have a conversation.
twitter was too noisy and repetitive too. it was always suggesting irrelevant shit i didn't want to see, and at some point i got tired of the droning repetition of the bitcoin twitterati. nostr kept on coming up as a topic from many of my follows and eventually i caved in and had a look. then i was like, i don't need twitter anymore. kthxbye
never wanted to use twitter before, but the flurry of activity stimulated by the collapse of shitcoins in 2021 drew me in, as it was relevant to my job at the time. my specialization in the area of shitcoins was cosmos, and right at that time, a cosmos chain was at the center of the controversy. this drove me back to bitcoin, and then bitcoin twitter, and then nostr.
haven't regretted it for one minute. though it was a bit rough at first, because i could see that a lot of the most visible users on nostr were missing the point.
even still, i landed a job directly out of my contact with people on nostr, and though that job is now basically finished, i have a spidey sense that nostr is again going to be my path to a new job. but i'm not gonna bank on that. in a few days after i finish some few tasks, and by the end of this month, i start on the job hunt because i can't afford to risk not having a job by the end of august.

My Nostr Dunbar Number is pretty great. If I ever wanted a firehose of bad takes, there are plenty of other places to find that.
Small numbers wouldn't be a problem if the people here were better.
