Because , people fight over the results as they are tabulated or announced ...

If you have it in a spreadsheet , anyone can change the spreadsheet after an hour ..

With this system , you have an immutable snap shot available to entire world .. its an amazing reporting system for high stake contests .. recounting is pain ..
