There's something liberating about posting on Nostr with out the potential for being judged by friends and family.
Discussion
Been thinking about this a lot as it grows and when/if many frens đ« keep at least some level of anonymity.
Lol. Yet. But once they join, that can go back and see all your undeleteable posts and judge you then. Shoot, they can even npub log in AS you and dig through all your shit except private messages.
Agreed...I went through this on Twitter 10+ years ago.
But yes Nostr is friggin rad. I actually like the âyou canât really delete stuffâ aspect - forces people to be more thoughtful, much closer to real in-person interaction.
This is certainly blow up hilariously on many of the folks whoâll confuse Nostr uncensorability with anonymityâŠIâm all here for it đđż
Youâre very right, which is why Iâve never linked my Nostr identity to my real life identity. Iâm more worried about commercial relationships than friends, though.
Yeah, but itâs deeper than that, regardless of how much structure we put around it, an actor with enough motivation could likely identify any of us on Nostr, anon or not. We all leak shit in the background and you have to get it right 100% of the time (nearly impossible over the long term), even on minor mistake is enough to be the answer to the tangled knot.
So even anon accounts I think have an incentive to maintain and conduct themselves as personas with embedded social value (and therefore real world risk if sufficiently bad behavior is discovered).
But for people that just want to be anons and hang out and #zap and shit then yeah all good. But I think thatâs fairly similar for non anons anyways.
My real life identity could definitely be discovered by a determined government, and probably by a determined someone else as well. Itâs not like Iâve been careful about connecting to relays only through a VPN. And anyone studying my notes would be able to figure out a few things about my demographics, education, and what country and time zone I live in. My precautions are against people who care only enough to search for me on Google.
Indeed
I wonder how long it will last. If itâll be a couple months or a coup years
