Big shout out to nostr:npub1xn9fxlmwj92svvllfkpcrvugkrx2ytfp9luw0w2n7r693jckay2sahvhwl for recommending the orange pi 5 for my #node instead of raspberry pi 4. So far so good. Now the resync begins again....... lol

To speed up initial node sync you can increase memory in the bitcoin node app settings. Standard is 450mb. I changed it to 3gb while syncing, then back to standard.

You don't stop with the awesome tips!

I wish citadel had the option. Even without it, full download seems much faster than umbrel...

Umbrel uses tor by default.. Hence connections are slower but more privacy.

You can disable it in the node settings if you want.

OOOHHHH. I didn't realize it would for the initial download.

Umbrel is a "personal" home server. By default its supposed to run in a local area network and is not accessible from the internet. Only via tor or tailscail vpn. If you intent to run a public server, umbrel is not for you.

How's the fan noise?

What noise? What heat either? This thing is amazeballs

No noise on mine either. It barely gets warm running umbrel on ubuntu linux.

Might be different if you were to really push it hard.. Or you got a defective fan (happend to me).

I've been eyeing up the orange pi too. Currently have my Bitcoin and lightning nodes running on a desktop server that's also handling some other things. Probably time to get a couple orange pis and spin up these nodes on dedicated hardware.

👍.. Go for it. Works very well.

I know it can't touch raspi support but have you found decent community support for the orange pi?
