I decided to make a new Facebook account to try and get in touch with some foreign friends that I really don't want to lose contact with.

This is new.

I'm guessing this is Facebook's way of gearing up for the new Australian social media laws.

The Australian government wants to have facial ID mandated as age verification for all social media.

The laws already passed months ago but they don't go into effect until December.

At which point it becomes illegal for 16 year olds and under to use anything considered social media. Even YouTube.

Whole point is to force people to accept the #digitalid

I'm sure the age restriction for social media will end up getting lifted, months after going into effect, once a large enough number of people get logged out of all their social media and get a pop up telling them to sign up for digital id, and they will because it'll be soooooo convenient.

The question is, can nostr defeat stuff like this in the long run?

The answer is, not at this pace 😢

They will start jailing relay operators.. 1984.

We need people to learn faster about Tor and "parallel construction" to combat this stuff strategically as individuals

Other than trying to remain in contact with people the real reason I tried to make a new Facebook today was onboarding more people to nostr.

Made a new tiktok and Instagram also just for that reason, new a whole new google account for YouTube so can't be bothered.

But the tiktok and Instagram will only be for posting Nostr related content.

If just one more person joins because of something I posted and they onboard a handful of friends and family my efforts will have paid off.

It's still early days.

I'll be making music for tiktok about nostr.

Ages ago on an old tiktok I had a sound from a song I made go viral. 15 million views on the video and a shitload of people used it as a sound for their own videos.

So the potential is there, if that song was about nostr, it could have on boarded a few hundred people I'm sure, although tiktok will shadowban you if people are opening a different app after watching your videos, so it will only work once at the most with each account.

There are tutorials for helping make a video to viral on each platform, specific words that the algorithms like or don't how to talk to the camera so it shows you to the right audience etc.

Someone who wants to promote nostr and has access to some decent ai to generate some videos could probably train it on those tutorials and just start making shitloads of videos with high potential of going viral.

Like what do people have to lose?

Using what platforms you can to convert people to nostr is the way 💪

Leave that shithole.

Honestly considering it long term.

But I have a deep connection to the land, my father's mother's grandfather planted the orchard, I have responsibilities I can't just drop. People and animals that rely on me.

But maybe one day I'll move to Africa or somewhere in southeast Asia or South America. But it's always a compromise wherever you go.

I know so many people who have come to Australia in the past 20 years from USA trying to escape the totalitarian nightmare, only to experience a rapid decline in Australian living standards and the rise of the police state.

Like one couple, multimillions, husband used to work for Sony music in their media relations, used own a house in LA and an apartment in NYC, wife had way too much free time to watch Alex Jones videos and got right down the Doomsday prepper rabbit hole.

Came to my area because it's especially idea for nuclear war/tsunami earthquake/coronal mass ejection or any other emp type event, altitude distance from coast distance from equator, etc.

Temperate climate but close enough to equator to grow subtropical plants in a greenhouse etc.

Solid ground for making bomb shelters.

I don't know if the area was advertised at some point or what, but there's cheap land about 50-100km from the town and lots of preppers and hippies have come here to escape from USA England Canada, lots of others end up finding their way here, we're in proximity(couple hours drive up the mountains)to Nimbin; the illegal cannabis growing capital of Australia, they have the law reform protests gathering 10,000+ people each year (the protest is essentially a huge party that goes for 3 days once a year a few weeks after the main sativa harvest.

So i have a pretty good support network of hippies and preppers I've worked for over the years that I can rely on if need be.

The thought of starting new, most likely somewhere English isn't the first language spoken, seems daunting even if I didn't have the responsibilities.
