This is a double-edged sword in #Vietnam
There is no welfare here, everyone works for their money. So some old ladies will scavenge bins for plastic and cardboard to re-sell.
They actually make ok money doing this and people seperate for them for the most part.
But the flipside is they are responsible for most of the pollution because they’ll grab up stuff and take it to random spots on the side of the road to sort through, then leave the worthless stuff in heaps.
The garbage collectors aren’t paid to collect this crap (each household pays $2/month for service) so they leave it there until it gets out of hand and then someone will burn it..
So cardboard, plastic, glass, and aluminium do get recycled but other stuff doesn’t go to landfill because of this recycling and often gets torched, releasing toxic shit into the air..
