All this talk of #aliens. Why did they release this to the public now? What are they trying to distract from?

I really wanted to believe this was going to change things, but deep down inside, I feel like it's a planned distraction, worse case. Or it's a carrot to keep the people happy in the meantime and provide no actual useful information like sharing alien tech that would make oil and coal obsolete.
