🤔 why were fees so high when blocks weren't anywhere close to being full?

It’s a halving block. People were doing it as a form of celebration. It’s not representative of the normal market.

Yes, but fees were higher back then because they were considered free or almost free since the fiat value was so low. At least that's how I thought about it in 2014.

the blocks on either side also have quite high fees considering they're empty. Maybe fee estimation wasn't as good
