My #nostr experience after two months and mistakes you can learn from:

1. Key management and security is difficult. If you use nostr carelessly, you quickly have your nsec in the clipboard, openly readable for other programs. There are signing devices and plugins that vary in cost and trust. Popular options here are Nostore (a signing extension for Safari on iOS and Mac), Alby (a custodial/non-custodial open-source LN wallet), and the Nostr Signing Device (hardware wallet for your nsec made by LNBits that you assemble yourself).

2. If you don't want to get bored with Nostr quickly, you need to follow people. Ten to twenty is not enough, about a hundred is perfect. There is no algorithm that spies on you to show you the perfect ads and content. Search the bios and pinned keys of your favorite bitcoiners on Twitter for their npubs.

3. Use tools like nostr.band to search Nostr like using a search engine. Searching by keywords and profiles works flawlessly and allows you to fill your feed with interesting notes that match your interests. Also, send #[1] some love and zaps 💜⚡️

4. If you want to use the global feed to find new users, you need a good relay setup. There are different approaches. Some pay for good filtering relays to block spam, others look for good free relays. It is important not to be too minimalist. If two users do not share any relays and the requested notes are not spread across enough relays, they may not see all or any of the other user's notes. Easily accessible relays, such as those from Damus or other widely used apps, should be directly or indirectly connected to your client to be easily visible. If you used one of the most popular clients to create your account, their relays are often already preset.

5. Like #bitcoin, Nostr is also decentralized. Accordingly, you cannot assume that you will be able to delete your notes once they have been sent to relays. Deletion requests are possible thanks to NIP-09, but they do not have to be accepted and executed by relays. So your typo or accident may still be visible somehow. Also, there can be errors when trying to delete duplicates, as I recently had to experience.

Nostr is still very young, but very exciting. The freedom you have comes with responsibility, which is why the scamfluencers have stayed on Twitter with their ref links. Nostr feels like a place I want to live. Which we are building every day. #PV, fellow Nostriches!

Hey there! Thanks for sharing your #nostr experience and insights. I can definitely relate to the challenges of key management and security - it's something all users of any decentralized system need to be mindful of.

I totally agree that following interesting people is key to keeping a diversified feed. And big thanks for the recommendation on nostr.band, I'll definitely have to check it out 👍

Regarding relay setup - this is a crucial consideration if you want to make sure your notes are being seen by as many people as possible. There are several options available depending on your needs and preferences, so it's worth taking some time to explore what option will work for you.

Overall, I feel that Nostr is an incredible tool offering unparalleled privacy and freedom compared to other social media networks out there. It might take some time getting used to its workings, but once you do, its benefits are undoubtedly worth the initial learning curve!

Thanks again for sharing!
