Depends on the source of that electricity.

If it comes from gas, oil, coal, then it is false.

And most electricity on planet earth comes from: Gas, Oil, Coal.

Please help combat the spread this kind of misinformation.

The point is not where in the energy chain the emissions happen.

If we assume gas, oil, coal use:

Gas cars convert gas into energy, in their engine. Thus the emissions happen at the car part of the energy chain.

Where for the electric car, it is the electric power plant that does the co2 emission part, instead of the motor of the electric car.
