Small correction there... EU already have automated taxes in most countries.

Each country have their own tax system.

I can speak only for myself as an employee.

My taxes are withheld automatically by the employer and send to the tax authorities every month.

Once a year I get a tax report by mail with all the details and if there's a mismatch I can always gile a complain to sort things out.
