Fossil fuels, And particularly nuclear are still the backbone of the countries that saw development during the industrial era, (1850-1950) but newly developing countries that never saw large amounts of development during this period are advantageously positioned to leapfrog this advance in technology. Scaling for large populations in a fast timeframe lends to nuclear energy, But more rural populations can take their time building infrastructure, And can dodge the polluting and environmentally damaging systems the west was built on. A perfect example is El Salvador or Iceland, Using Geothermal energy to mine bitcoin. The infrastructure cost has much less upkeep, Far less risk to peoples health, And can scale for the smaller populations. It takes ten years to locate and tap a new oil well, and a minimum of a billion dollar investment to exploit the natural resource over the timeline of the reserves lifecycle. Oil and gas is very unrealistic for Iceland or other places with geothermal energy resources. There will be winners and losers in the future energy transition. If you are not familiar with Jeremy Rifkin, He has some excellent academic content going over the technological revolution.

Can we shut off the pumps in California first and see how it goes?

Yeah, let's not.

Welp, that’s been in the Plan for a while. You have to break society first in order to control it.
