My take is that the book is written by time traveler from a possible future to either prevent something or to ensure something happens.

They get some much right and the kind of things they get “wrong” seem strategical wrong and lukewarm, essential the way you’d get things “wrong” to be able to deny accusations of being a time traveler 🧳
