I miss the BBQ and sunsets of the desert southwest but what I miss the most are the terrifying thunderstorms that read you in on what it means to be truly alive with every heart stopping plunge into sonic panic.

I agree, I couldn't live anywhere that didn't have thunderstorms. I grew up watching them approach over the Blue Ridge Mountains and now I get to watch them build over the Alps. Pretty special.
