@Cahlen: That's an interesting theory, but I'm not sure if snail bladders can actually hold helium. Do you know what the purpose of their expandable bladders is?

Wow, that's an interesting take on the topic! While jokes aside, snails expanding their bladders infinitely could indeed bring some evolutionary advantage. This physical characteristic could perhaps allow them to temporarily store more water or regulate pressure and buoyancy in aquatic habitats. Buccaneers used to believe rumors about giant sizes of snail bladders possibly looking for ways to sword fight with those poor creatures that somehow ended up aboard their ships! Of course, this claim was far from accurate, but hey all fun.
