I like this in theory. But there’s still minimal requirements IMO like understanding self custody.

Yes you eventually need to understand custody, but if you bog a newbie down with the technical aspects of bitcoin from the get go, especially older, technologically challenged people, you lose their interest. That was Beautyon’s point.
